Restoration Company or Contractor/Repairman
Don’t just take Media Advice
While gathering information for this post, most of the experts that I spoke to agreed that you should NOT settle with the insurance company right away because in most circumstances once you cash an insurance claims check you indemnify the carrier of further responsibility to pay further damages. The media is saying to get your insurance check in hand ASAP and then shop contractors. Human nature being what it is and in these tough economic times, some homeowner may be tempted to hire the cheapest bid and pocket the difference and while you could do that it may be short sighted at best and downright foolish at worst.
The object of any post-catastrophe operation is to restore your home to its pre-disaster condition and to pick up the pieces and try to quickly put the event behind you. We urge insured home owners not to be further injured by people out to make a quick buck.” Don Fuller, North Carolina Farm Bureau Agent
